Welcome Back to PCMS! I am excited to be teaching  8th grade this year.

This year we will be implementing the new science standards so that means we will see some big changes to past 8th grade curriculum. We will get through it together though. I look forward to preparing you for the world of High School.

A little about me... I was born in Menifee Co. and raised in Bath and Montgomery Co. I have two bachelors degrees and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling. I have taught 3rd-12th grades and have been a High School Counselor. This will be my 24th yr of teaching.

I LOVE science!! I have 5 beautiful daughters , 3 dogs, and a great guy named Ron!

6th 6 weeks- Need for Speed * Kinetic energy and relation to mass and speed *Test review activities

All time frames are approximate. Snow Days will be taken into account as well as special functions, testing, etc.

*Please note there are  projects to be done at home that will count as major project grades. Instructions will be sent 1-3 weeks before project is due.

*It is a requirement that students take one science AR test each 6 weeks. Point value does not matter. This counts as a 100 point test grade and it is very important that your child reads at least one.

*Supplies needed for class: Pencil, journal(“moo-cow”), color pencils or crayons or markers(8 count is fine), glue stick. Also loose leaf paper to be kept in room for turn in assignments.

*Students ask about extra credit at times- I do not give extra credit unless the student has at least attempted to do their regular class work. I do give extra credit for science AR tests taken beyond the one required each 6 weeks. The student can also do a poster over a topic that we are covering in class. I occasionally give extra credit for bringing in supplies needed for experiments, since we are on an extremely limited budget.

* Please be aware of the rules for rewards plus and discuss proper classroom behavior with your student. I have 5 children of my own and I expect them to behave and be respectful at school. I will expect no less from my students, and I am sure you feel the same. I look forward to working with your child this year and building a foundation in science that they will be able to expand on for the future.
