HOMEWORK FOLDERS: Your child will have a homework folder that will be sent home each afternoon and returned to school the following morning. Homework folders contain a monthly calendar with events & snack schedule, lunch menu, weekly newsletters, homework to be completed, graded work to be kept at home, and any additional letters, forms, etc…that are for parents. It is very important that you take time every evening to look through and clean out the homework folder.

BOOK ORDERS: Each month we will be sending home Scholastic book order forms. This is a good way to get books for your child at a fairly low cost. I encourage you to read with your child at least 15 minutes a night. This will help familiarize them with handling books and reading fluently. Reading is a very important part of your child’s education which helps them in other subject areas. Also, visiting our local public library to check out books is a great resource.

SNACKS: Each child will be responsible for providing drinks and snacks to be shared with the class at least once or more each month. Individually wrapped snacks and drinks are greatly appreciated as they work best for the class. The snack schedule is on the monthly calendar inside the homework folder. If there is a specific time or day of the month that is better for you, please let me know and I will gladly schedule that for you.

WILL YOU TIE MY SHOE?  Learning to tie shoelaces is a valuable skill for every child to learn. Keeping shoelaces tied can keep your child safe by helping to prevent accidents such as tripping over laces. Please take time to work with your child at home on this important skill so that he/she can tie their shoelaces when school starts.

CLASS RULES: Our class rules and consequences will be reviewed with the students and posted in our classroom.

1. Control your body all over school. This includes hitting, kicking, throwing things, running, hands to self, etc…

2. Be a good listener & talk at appropriate times.

3. Respect others.

4. Be positive.

BEHAVIOR POCKETS: When a student breaks one of the rules he/she gets a strip of paper in his/her behavior pocket on our chart and it is written on the calendar in his/her homework folder.

If a student gets:

1 strip in the pocket = miss 5 minutes playtime

 2 strips = miss 10 minutes playtime

3 strips = miss all playtime

4 or more strips = no playtime, note to parents, and time-out

REWARDS: When a student has a “happy pocket” on the behavior pocket chart at the end of the day, he/she will earn a sticker or a star/smiley on their calendar. Students that are not absent and earn happy pockets all week will be allowed to get a prize from the prize box on Fridays. Calendars are kept in the homework folders so you may see your child’s behavior each day.

Absences: If your child is absent, they must bring a professional or written excuse with them upon their return to school.

P.E.: Wear sneakers on P.E. day!

Transportaion: If your child has a change in transportation during the school year, please come to the front office and fill out all necessary information.  Students will not be allowed to stay after school for any extra-curricular activity without a note from their parent.  Your child will only be allowed to leave with persons on their pick-up list.  IMPORTANT!  School traffic flow has changed.  Please adhere to signage and follow.
