Buccaneer Broadcasting Moral(e) Media Producations

Bowen News - Buccaneer Broadcasting Service

Beginning in 1993 with "Kids in Motion" and a VHS camcorder, Bowen has had a daily video newscast.  These days,  "Bowen's Buccaneer Broadcasting Team produces the Bowen Morning News - a daily program that is broadcast throughout our school building via a closed circuit television system.  It is taped in our greenscreen studio room using a digital Panasonic Camera and a laptop with teleprompting software (currently we are using Prompt).  It is then imported into Pinnacle 15, chromakeyed, and streamed back into a Roland video mixer, which will play on our existing closed circuit system. Select episodes that meet internet safety guidlines are also shared on our school webpage.

Fourth and fifth graders produce the show under the guidance of the media specialist.  The school news project leaders plan content, create the script, film the segments, import, edit, and create the final news program. Students of all ages are invited to submit feature stories about things happening in their classrooms,  book talks about great books they have enjoyed, News stories about school events, and even photos, songs, or artwork for our school news.

The news program regularly incorporates feature stories created by other students within the school. The students who create these feature stories utilize a variety of technologies depending on the story and the student producing the product. These technologies include: video cameras, digital still-image cameras, Photostory, Audacity, MovieMaker, Paint, Microsoft Word, and we hope to incorporate emerging technology as it becomes available.

Moral(e) Media Production-
Inspired by the 2013-14 PSA-Team, a team of four students is spreading the word that good choices are cool and character counts!  They are creating a series of video shorts to address topics such as The Seven Habits of Happy Kids, bullying, saying no to drugs, and they are planning to delve into using stories/vignettes as a teaching tool to boost student confidence and character.  These students research, write their script, storyboard the shots that they need, then film, edit, and produce the PSA which is then shared on our school news and website.
